What contrast ratio do I need?

4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text to meet AA. AAA asks for 7:1.

Why did my brand colour fail?

Brand palettes are chosen to look good, not to be readable. Light greys and mid-tone colours on white fail very often.
